The Human and Environmental Physiology Research Unit (HEPRU) has been leading the charge in conducting innovative and cutting-edge research on the assessment of the environmental and human factors affecting a person’s ability to live and work in the heat. Established in 2000, the HEPRU is the largest research facility directed at assessing the human heat stress response in the world. Over the past 20+ years, the HEPRU has developed international standard-setting heat protection management and monitoring solutions. Using the world's only whole-body direct calorimeter (a device used to precisely measure the heat emitted by the human body), HEPRU has the unique ability to examine the effects of changing environments on human physiological responses.
